Overview#
Manager Self-Service (MSS) is the portal managers use to see their team, approve requests, and review reports without needing HR Admin access.
Purpose#
Show managers how to review their team, act on pending approvals, and read team-level reports.
Prerequisites#
- A user account with a Manager role and at least one direct or indirect report assigned in the org structure.
Step-by-Step Instructions#
Reviewing your team#
- Open the MSS dashboard after login.
- Go to Team to see your direct reports, team detail, and org hierarchy.
- Use Timeline to review recent activity for your team, and Search to find a specific team member or record.
Approving attendance and leave#
- Go to Attendance to view your team’s attendance and summary, and approve or reject attendance correction requests.
- Go to Leave to view the team leave calendar and balances, and approve or reject leave requests.
General approvals (workflow inbox)#
- Go to Approvals to see your workflow inbox: pending items, completed items, and any escalations routed to you.
- Approve, reject, or send an item back for changes. Add a comment if requested.
- Use bulk-approve for multiple similar items when appropriate.
Reports#
- Go to Reports for team-level views, and Payroll for a view-only payroll summary for your team.
- Go to Documents to review documents shared with or by your team.
Screens Involved#
Expected Results#
Managers can see their team clearly, clear their approvals queue, and pull basic team reports without HR Admin involvement.
Common Mistakes#
- Approving a leave or attendance request without checking the team calendar for coverage conflicts first.
- Leaving items in the approvals inbox unattended — some workflows escalate automatically after a delay.
Troubleshooting#
A team member is missing from my Team view.#
Confirm the employee’s reporting manager is set correctly in their employee record. MSS team views are built from the reporting-line assignment in the org structure.
I cannot see an approval I was told about.#
Check both Pending and Escalations tabs in Approvals — the item may have been reassigned or already actioned by another approver in the chain.

FAQ#
Can a manager edit an employee’s profile?
Profile editing is primarily an HR Administrator function. Managers use MSS mainly for approvals and read access to team data; check with your HR Admin about what your specific role permissions allow.
Why do some approvals show as "escalated"?
The workflow engine can escalate an item that has not been actioned within its configured time window, routing it to another approver.
Best Practices#
- Clear the approvals inbox daily to avoid automatic escalations disrupting your team’s workflow.
- Use the team leave calendar before approving requests to avoid understaffing.
